Chaplain Johnny Klugh...My goal in life ever since I was saved forty-six years ago has been to seek the lost for Christ. I have been involved in many evangelistic activities including the Gideon's, jail ministries, lay speaking, Sunday School teacher, evangelistic crusades, and of course personal witnessing.
When I retired five years ago my determination was to be more involved in evangelism than I had been in the past. A friend mentioned the possibility of starting a truck stop ministry in Commerce. I had never been involved in trucking or in the truck stop atmosphere (which I have found to be very good).
However, since I live in Commerce about two miles from T/A truck stop and I-85 this sounded like a great opportunity. We began this ministry under the auspices of Truckstop Ministries, Inc. (TMI) in March 2003. Since that time I have, also become involved on a regular basis as a chaplain at Petro truck stop in Carnesville. To say that I have enjoyed this ministry and to say that we have seen great results would be a vast understatement. Truckstop Ministries, Inc. a is wonderful missionary and evangelism organization which has been greatly used of the Lord. As I heard Joe Hunter, founder and president of TMI, say we are involved in "first-line evangelism". I believe this short statement sums up well what we are about.
We hold worship services, Bible Studies, hand out Gospel tracts, furnish Bibles and Christian literature, counsel (which consist mostly of heartfelt listening and prayer), visit, talk with people about most anything they want to talk about, and on and on with the one overriding objective, always of winning the lost to Christ.
I am never involved with any of these activities without asking every individual "Do you know for sure that if you were to die today that you would go to Heaven?" If the answer is "no" or I sense a need, I then present God's plan of salvation.
I think one of our most important opportunities is encourage the Christian driver's we come in contact with and there are many of them to be involved in personal witnessing. I keep stacks of witnessing cards on hand and after impressing on them the responsibility we have to seek the lost, I give them the cards and discuss how ways it is even for people who are not naturally outgoing to give a card to someone or leave it in a public place.
I hope that what I have written conveys something of enthusiasm and excitement I feel for the work we are doing and the way the Lord is blessing the work. To be involved at the truck stops at both Commerce and Carnesville ranks at one of the very best blessings of my life.
